Food Network Creative

Copy seen in media

During my internship experience at Warner Brother’s Discover as a Food Network Publicity intern, I gained valuable experience in crafting effective and engaging press materials. While working on the Halloween programming press release, I developed language that not only highlighted key details but also captured the tone and excitement of the programming. The press release was shared directly with journalists and inspired coverage that aligned with our messaging. Seeing it result in both direct pickups and creative stories by media outlets was a valuable experience in understanding how well-crafted materials can connect with audiences. Below are links to the public press release I worked on and the top media story that came from it.

Published Story, Madison Commons

The journey to writing “New MMSD Grading and Homework Policies: Equitable or Catastrophic Changes?” was as challenging as it was rewarding. To pursue all angles, I engaged with administrators, teachers, parents, and students to uncover the multifaceted perspectives surrounding these controversial policies. Building trust and fostering open conversations was key to understanding the story's complexity. This experience taught me the power of relationships in journalism and deepened my commitment to telling stories highlighting the voices and nuances often overlooked in public discourse.

Campaign Book

Over the summer, I took on the role of Account Director for a six-week mock marketing campaign, with Listerine as our client. This intensive strategy class explored the complexities of launching a campaign, from identifying target audiences through market research to developing comprehensive media, social media, advertising, budgeting, earned media, and PR plans. We even crafted commercials to bring our ideas to life.

As Account Director, I oversaw the planning process, led our market research efforts, and served as the primary communicator and liaison between our team and the client. This experience honed my leadership, strategic thinking, and collaborative skills, providing valuable insights into the multifaceted world of marketing campaigns.

BUCKY PR Casebook

During my time at Bucky PR, I served as an account executive and team lead for an incredible group working with Galin Scholars. This client was particularly meaningful because we deeply connected with their mission: providing counseling and tutoring opportunities to pre-college students in low-income communities, giving them access to resources they often lack before application season.

Our team played a pivotal role in supporting Galin Scholars from their very first student. My responsibilities included leading weekly meetings with the founder of Galin Scholars, coordinating with team members, and ensuring that our plans and campaign strategies ran smoothly. I also acted as the liaison between our team and the Bucky PR board, keeping all stakeholders informed and aligned.

Our campaign focused on creating a media and social media strategy designed to increase awareness and reach more students who could benefit from Galin Scholars’ impactful work.

Magazine Layout

My time at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication has equipped me with valuable skills in video editing, Photoshop, audio production, and more. While researching seasonal depression among college students, I became proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud, which allowed me to design this magazine layout using InDesign.

This story meant a lot to me. While interviewing many people about seasonal depression, one conversation stood out the most. It taught me the importance of trust in journalism and how building relationships on a personal level can reveal deeper truths. Through this connection, I was able to truly feel her emotions and better understand her experience.

Mental Health Below Zero

Mental Health Below Zero is a research and creative blog I developed to explore the story of seasonal depression among college students. Through this project, I gained hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, utilizing Audition, Premiere, Photoshop, and InDesign to bring my ideas to life.

This journey taught me that storytelling takes many forms and can be expressed in ways that are both impactful and visually engaging. Most importantly, I learned the value of trust and kindness when approaching stories of hardship and depression, allowing me to connect with others and share their experiences authentically.
